Born in Pisa (Italy). Works in Brooklyn, NY
BIO / CV
Silvia Muleo is a conceptual and multidisciplinary artist born in Pisa, Italy, working across video, painting, and participatory installation. Her research is driven by the urge to unravel how reality is understood across digital and physical spaces. Coming of age within Web 2.0 (participatory social web) Muleo formed relationships, community, and her sense of self in a third space shaped by the constant overlap of online and offline worlds. This hybrid condition continues to inform her practice.
Muleo depicts light as both material and metaphor: it is the condition for reflection, projection, and visibility, oscillating between presence and absence. Her compositions analyze the visual forms that construct and disrupt perception: Phone screens, for instance, simultaneously reveal and erase worlds, faces, and narratives. The work carries the language of our time: fragmentation, mediation, repetition, and erasure.
Muleo holds an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts (New York, New York), from which she was awarded a scholarship for merit and the Alumni Scholarship Thesis Found. She got her BA in Painting at Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (Florence, Italy) with honors.
Her work has been exhibited in the U.S.A. and Europe, in both private and institutional venues including New Collectors Gallery (New York, 2024, 2022), tutu gallery (New York, 2024) , Ki Smith gallery (New York, 2023), Centro Expo Ciampi (Florence Regional Palace, 2021), PALP Museum (Pontedera, Italy, 2020).
Her work has been reviewed in several magazine such as White Hot Magazine, ArTribune, Corriere Fiorentino, La Repubblica Firenze.
